We have a big problem in society.
“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.”- Henry David Thoreau
Thoreau was a philosopher and transcendentalist who lived a simple life in the woods to escape the brainwashing of society.
He chose his own path.
Why did he say this?
He believed most men live lives of quite desperation because they are not chasing their dreams or worse they don’t have a dream.
They don’t take any risks.
According to Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace 2023 report, only 15% of full-time workers worldwide are engaged in their jobs. This means 85% hate their jobs.
That’s a whole lot of people not pursuing their dreams.
That’s a whole lot of people tip toeing thru life to “safety” arrive at death. (re-read that)
That’s a whole lot of people living lives of quiet desperation with a smile on their face but inside their dying.
High performers risk it all.
A high performer is willing to look dumb and look like an idiot for weeks, months and years until they achieve their impossible authentic goal but you are not willing to looking like a beginner for moment.
Isn’t that weird?
Two humans, made up of 99.99% of the same DNA but two very different behaviors and temperaments.
The difference is one is willing to live and die with regrets and the other is not.
Most people conform to whatever society tells them to do. They let others define their dreams, careers and goals but not the elite. Not Creators.
Michael Jordan is the perfect example. He was arguably the best athlete in the history of the world when he decided to leave the NBA to pursue his other dream of being a major league baseball player despite what society wanted him to do and keep playing basketball. The entire world thought he was crazy to leave; they simply couldn’t understand it.
Why leave a game you are the best in the world at to play a game that you haven’t played since you were a teenager.
What the world and most don’t understand is that Jordan was willing to risk failure and ridicule to fulfill his dream, ensuring that at 100 years old, he could look back at his life with peace of mind, knowing he bet on himself, always.
Family, friends and society will have their own expectations for you but you must only follow your own expectations for yourself if you want to be happy and fulfilled.
This is the path of self mastery.
What’s the point of life?
To discover what you’re made of.
To find your edge and confidently look over it.
Those brave enough to test their limits gain clarity and peace.
Knowing you’ve truly tested your capabilities brings happiness and fulfillment.
You’re ready to die at any moment because you’ve lived a full, authentic life.
My dream
Growing up I wanted to create freedom for myself: financial, time, location, and most importantly, mental freedom. Since childhood, I hated feeling fearful and my biggest fear was rejection. To overcome this, I went into sales for massive exposure therapy. I started by selling house painting services door-to-door, next I made 300 cold calls a day in my first financial services job. The next step in my anti-fear evolution was to sell for myself as an entrepreneur. This exposure therapy proved highly effective. Now, I’m exploring social media because I refuse to let ideas that are inside of me, stay inside me because of fear.
Don’t die with your music still inside.
Steps to Avoid Mediocrity:
- Identify the one big thing you’ve always wanted to do but were scared to try.
- Set a start date on your calendar.
- Give yourself 12-24 months of all-out effort to eliminate any possibility of future regret.
- Ask yourself: Would the 100-year-old version of you regret not trying?
Don’t live your life desperate, live it out loud as a Creator.
To your freedom
